First House Meeting of the Year
The first House Meeting of the school year brought the entire Shore community together for one of our favorite traditions. Students, faculty, colleagues – and even some parents – gathered as we welcomed new members into their Houses and kicked off another year of connection, friendship, and Shore spirit.
The excitement filled the room as new students were called forward and sorted into their Houses by the House Captains. Joining Cove, Dune, Harbor, Jetty, Marsh, and Shoal, each new student officially became part of a community they will grow with throughout their years at Shore. For Grade 4 student Adaline L., the moment was especially exciting. “House sorting was so fun today! I kinda thought I was going to get placed in Harbor or Jetty, but when they called Marsh, I had a lot of fun running up to my section to cheer with my Marsh Housemates.”

Grade 5 student Violet P. was happy to discover her new House, and find a familiar face – her new Little Buddy. “It’s so fun learning about all the different Houses here at Shore and I got my little buddy!” The House Captains were just as enthusiastic to welcome the newest members. Cove House Captain Ms. Haberstock shared, “Today was amazing! It was very exciting to welcome new house members, and Grade 5 is also buzzing with excitement because they were able to help place and sort all new Pre-K 1 and Pre-K 2 students earlier this week.”
After the thrill of House sorting, Grade 5 and Kindergarten Buddies had the chance to connect and play together on the playground. Older students helped their younger buddies, shared games, and began getting to know one another. It was a sweet glimpse of the relationships that will continue to grow throughout the year.
The House System is more than a Shore tradition. With students from every grade coming together in Cove, Dune, Harbor, Jetty, Marsh, and Shoal, Shore’s Houses create connections across campus while giving students opportunities to build friendships and grow as leaders.
The first House Meeting was just the beginning. We can’t wait to watch these relationships blossom as our students continue to play, learn, and discover together throughout the year.
