An Adventurous Approach

Shore Upper School students have been experiencing an exploratory and collaborative approach to learning in Project Adventure for over two decades! It has become a rite of passage for Shore seventh and eighth graders to take a swing on the Flying Squirrel or to reach the two-dollar bill by way of a team climb on the Dangle Trio.

An adventure approach to physical education, Project Adventure is characterized by activities that are challenging and fun. Each new class brings challenges that can be successfully solved through group collaboration and individual initiative. The major goals of Project Adventure are: trust, communication, teamwork, leadership, and cooperation. A highlight of the course is the opportunity to utilize Shore’s Ropes Course and Indoor Climbing Wall.

Daniel, a Grade 7 student reflecting on his experience in Grade 7 Project Adventure

“Being at the top of the rope was thrilling, as well as a little scary. But I look back on it and I am really glad I did it.”
