Annual Flag Raising
Celebrating 90 Years of Excellence: Beginning the School Year Together
The first day of school is always a special moment at Shore, bringing students, families, and colleagues back to campus for a new year. On Tuesday, September 8, the Shore community gathered around the flagpole for the annual Flag Raising, marking the official start of the school year.
The morning was filled with excitement and anticipation as new students, families, and colleagues were welcomed alongside familiar faces. Head of School Amber Bock began the morning by welcoming everyone back with a nod to 90 years of excellence and all of the wonderful memories we will create together. She emphasized that this was the first of many small and special moments to come throughout the year. She then invited Grade 5 singers to the microphone to sing America the Beautiful, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Bock then invited one Grade 8 student, Dave R., and one Grade 7 student, Viv M., to the flagpole to raise the American flag and the Shore flag. Once the flags were raised, Grade 8 Leadership Ambassadors were introduced and led the school in reciting the Community Code. Bock then finished her opening remarks and wished everyone a wonderful year ahead.
Flag Raising is more than a first-day tradition. Bringing everyone from Pre-K through Grade 8 into one shared space, it reminds us of the community each of us is fortunate to be part of and help shape every day.
With the flag flying high, the school year has officially begun at Shore! One filled with learning, discovery, friendship, and new possibilities. In Shore’s 90th year, it was an especially fitting way to begin: as one community.
