Thank You, Coach Lund

When it comes to coaching at Shore, few have had as impactful a tenure with the athletics program as longtime Grade 5 Teacher and Varsity Basketball Coach David Lund, colloquially described as "the Phil Jackson of the north shore" by Science Teacher and J.V. Basketball Coach Erik Swanson. Lund's impressive displays of commitment and dedication in his 29 years of working with Shore athletes shows a deep passion for our community and has touched the lives of multiple generations of Shore students. Lund's tenure transcends the construction of the Rock Gym and broad changes to Shore's athletics program, and he leaves behind a legacy of hard work, inspiration, and a unique love of competition, as fierce as it is cool, calm, and collected. His consistency and reliability model what it is to live the Community Code, and will leave a lasting impression on Shore athletics, and it certainly has left a lasting impression on Athletic Director Nancy McNall, who has worked side by side with Lund throughout his many years.

"He loves basketball, he knows a lot about basketball, he loves having fun with those players, and year in and year out, those players will often speak about their seasons with Coach Lund when they return to campus as alumni and reminisce about their days at Shore. He was the exact kind of leader you want to see at Shore," said McNall, speaking from the heart about her longtime colleague. "When I think about David coaching, I think about him being so calm throughout, but as the game wears on, you can see him slowly rise up to his full height, and elevate his intensity, and that's when his competitiveness really comes out. His assistant coaches, one after another, would say how great he was to work with, and I can't even imagine him not being on the sidelines. I try not to think too hard about it!"

Lund's presence will be missed in many spaces on Shore's campus, from Grade 5 classrooms to the faculty lounge, but one of the most memorable will no doubt be the basketball court.
