Winter Season Recap 2026

This winter, Shore athletes showed up day after day and gave their best, which is especially impressive during a cold, snowy winter. Each afternoon, energetic students could be seen running to the gyms for basketball practice or boarding the activity van for a round of squash. With first-time basketball players and first-time squash players, many students were trying something new and stepping outside of their comfort zone. Supported by their peers, these athletes learned new skills, built confidence, and had fun being active.

On the squash courts, Shore Squash enjoyed a rewarding season under the leadership of Doug Lucey. The team gained invaluable match experience through spirited competitions against SquashBusters in Lawrence and Brookwood at Myopia. These matches provided a perfect platform for growth, offering a high-level challenge for veteran players like Jonathan S. while giving new players their first taste of competitive play. Whether winning a tough rally or learning the nuances of court positioning, the squad focused on the fun of the game and steady improvement.

The Girls Varsity Basketball team, led by coaches Bob Snyder and Lynn Pisanelli, finished a competitive season with a strong 6-4 record. While three of their losses were decided by fewer than 5 points, the team’s resilience shone through as they ended the year on a three-game winning streak. Captains Ava B. and Ayla P. recalled the satisfaction of avenging early-season losses to Brookwood and Pike, but a real highlight was a high-energy victory over Rockport, where every single player on the roster scored. As Ava noted, the true success of the season wasn't just the teams final record, but the deep "connection" formed between teammates.

Our Boys JV Basketball team also enjoyed a standout season, finishing 6-2 under the guidance of Erik Swanson and Cam McNall. The focus this year was on the fundamentals, with players like Braeden B. and Tyler C. emphasizing how consistent practice in ball handling, passing, and shooting translated into game-day success. Beyond the mechanics, the team took great pride in their "strong team defense," proving that chemistry and helping one another out are the ultimate keys to a successful season.

Finally, the Boys Varsity Basketball team (5-7) navigated a challenging schedule with hustle and selfless play. Led by captains Noah G., Zachary C., and a dedicated group of eighth graders, the team frequently faced off against much taller opponents, holding their own with tight defense and timely three-pointers. Zach commented how “we had many great games this season, which were usually against much taller opponents, and in one of them, a few of us almost got dunked on!” The most poignant moment of the season took place during the final home game. Players and fans gathered to celebrate Coach David Lund, who concluded his 29th and final year on the hardcourt. His nearly three decades of coaching excellence have left an indelible mark on Shore athletics. Thank you, Mr. Lund!
