World Celebration Day

World Celebration Day was born out of the idea that the unique cultures, traditions, and heritage of Shore families deserve to be seen, shared, and celebrated, and this year's event was a huge success! An enormous outpouring of support from the Shore community meant that we had 25 different tables set up in the Howard Gym, representing 25 different nations across six of our seven continents. Thank you so much to our SFA, specifically organizers Erika and Ramon Ruiz, for all of your hard work that went into the day.

The gym was full of excitement and positive energy throughout the morning as Shore students of all ages and their families walked around the array of cultural tables perusing the artwork, photos, and heirlooms which represent the cultures and backgrounds that together make up our larger Shore community. Students squared off in musical drumming battles originating from Pakistan, learned all about a unique style of paddle-ball game from Peru, and took photos on the streets of Munich in Germany. "Portugal was my favorite so far, the food sounds awesome and the flag is really cool and detailed too!" said Grade 1 student Cal M.

After a morning of conversation and culture, our community came together in the Dining Hall to enjoy a globally inspired lunch, courtesy of our kitchen staff! Chef Wood and her team went above and beyond, and worked with community members to prepare a thoughtfully curated lunch featuring a dish from each nation represented at World Celebration Day. Highlighting the culture's local cuisine, each new dish gave our community a taste of unique flavor from a different part of the world. Highlights included traditional spanakopita from Greece, sweet cucumber salad from Macau, and a delicious fatoush from Jordan.

Finally, after lunch was over, World Celebration Day concluded with a lively cultural and musical performance in the Trustey Family Theatre. The performance celebrated global traditions through music, movement, and expression, and offered students another joyful and meaningful way to experience culture beyond the classroom. The drums, movement, and added student participation made for unforgettable moments as our community came together as one.

New this year, Shore’s student-run Multicultural Club, led by Grade 8 students Ayla P. and Will P., created a world map of the Shore community's countries of origin. The idea, spearheaded by the students, aimed to make our entire community and their respective cultures feel celebrated in the day. Family photos were also included, adding meaning to the project, and helping to make this one of our most memorable World Celebration Day events yet.

Thank you to the entire Shore community for your combined efforts in making this event such a beautiful display of our community's culture!
