Shore Athletics had a season to remember! From launching our first-ever Shore Golf Team to celebrating the Boys’ Varsity Soccer program’s first undefeated season of the new millennium, the excitement never stopped. Our athletes also helped break in our brand-new solar-powered scoreboards, adding an extra spark to every game. At the Fall Celebration, upper school students, coaches, parents, teachers, and administrators came together to honor the hard work and achievements of Shore’s athletes and coaches as the first season of the year came to a close.
The Golf Team made the most of its inaugural season, spending two sessions each week out on the course and using the other two days to sharpen skills — putting drills in the hallways and working on drives and chips at the range. Captain Jacob B. reflected on the group’s growth, noting, “One thing that our group learned was that we don’t have to be amazing golfers or play perfectly to have fun out on the golf course.” He also shared a favorite reminder from coach Erik Swanson, quoting the late, great Ben Hogan: “The most important shot in golf is the next one.”
Cross Country continued to thrive this season. Despite having a smaller team, the runners represented Shore proudly at the state meet and throughout the fall. Captain Zayaan F. highlighted just how much the team grew, sharing, “Now, our entire team has run in races over 2 miles in length. This proves our dedication to hard work, not only as runners, but as students. Each and every challenge we faced this year was overcome by the teamwork we showed. Whenever someone was struggling, the others would support them.” It was a true testament to the spirit of teamwork!
Varsity Field Hockey had a fun and competitive season, highlighted by the unique statistic of recording more ties than wins or losses (3-3-4). Every single game was a nail-biter right down to the final whistle, with every score decided by two goals or less. Captain Lilith B. shared that the team worked hard and supported each other every step of the way, noting, “This season showed what teamwork really means.” Co-captain Freyja K. added, “Honestly, half the fun wasn’t just the games, but everything in between, the jokes, the music, and the chaos that somehow kept us focused.”
Boys JV Soccer (3-6-1) played a challenging schedule against older opponents and consistently brought their best to the field. Captain Charlie F. noted, “We were respectful and worked hard on and off the field. We never gave up, even if the odds were against us.” Fellow captain Adriaan Z. added, “I watched players on our team really grow and expand their knowledge of soccer gameplay and use their new and more skillful mechanics. By the end of the season, this team’s determination and hard work really stood out.”
Girls Varsity Soccer (4-4-2) was plagued by injuries as the season progressed; nevertheless, team members stepped up wherever needed. Delilah L. noted how “one of the biggest highlights was watching how quickly we grew, not just as players, but as a team.” Ayla P. added, “One thing many people don’t realize is how much work happened off the field. We all spent time learning new drills, building trust, and figuring out how to communicate without even talking.” This team showed up with energy, even on the toughest days, pushing one another forward with positivity and purpose. Their resilience became the defining story of their season.
Boys Varsity Soccer (10-0-1) featured a core group of eighth grade players who have loved the game since their earliest days at Shore. Their hard work and talent all came together this season, fueling an incredible run on the field. Under coaches Manny Brito and Cam McNall, the team stayed focused, played with heart, and never lost sight of their goals. Captain Freddy W. said it best: “Thanks to our talented players and coaches, and the friendly, yet disciplined and hard-working attitude throughout the team, we were able to complete an undefeated season, with many memorable moments along the way.” It was a season full of great soccer, teamwork, and memories that the players and coaches will remember!
