Shore's Giving Tree: Giving the Gift of Kindness

Shore’s annual Giving Tree program was a huge success this year, as once again the Winslow Building Birdcage was packed with gifts of all sizes. Each year, Shore partners with local agencies (Beverly Bootstraps, Northeast ARC's Autism Support Center, Beverly Children's Learning Center, Massachusetts Department of Children's and Family Services, North Shore Community Action Program, Plummer Youth Promise, and Plummer Community Apartments Program) to spread holiday cheer to children and families in need. Shore families who wish to participate can choose which agencies they’d like to support and which gifts they would like to give. Each year that Shore runs the Giving Tree program, the impact of our community's generosity grows. The suggested donation amount is $25–$50, and every gift truly makes a difference. Gifts range from toys for local kids to toiletries for families to donations to local youth homes and aid centers. The Birdcage was so full of gifts that it was difficult to move around, highlighting the generosity of the Shore community and the dedication to supporting our neighbors.

Year-in and year-out, the SFA's tireless work keeps the Giving Tree program going strong, with yearly adjustments to the agencies and the offerings ensuring the impact of our community's hard work is maximized. Angie Guarracino P'30, '31 took the lead this year. “The Giving Tree is a magical whirlwind. In a short time, the Shore community comes together to provide over 200 gifts to a wide array of local organizations in need, it is truly remarkable," she said about the program, sharing thanks for Giving Tree parent volunteers and student supporters alike. "The committee is made up of wonderful people who truly support the cause and devote their time to make sure that those in need receive their requested gifts in time for the holidays. The student community has also been remarkable by spreading the word, writing heartfelt messages to recipients, and helping to load every car for delivery. The organizations are always so appreciative and overwhelmed by Shore’s generosity. This is definitely a rewarding group that I am always proud to be a part of.” The Giving Tree is a yearly reminder of the good that our community does in the world, and we are so lucky to have dedicated SFA volunteers who make this happen.
