California Event Brings Together Shore Alumni, Grandparents

Shore alumni and grandparents gathered in Los Angeles with Head of School Clair Ward on Thursday, April 5, for Shore’s Southern California Reception. The event, hosted by current grandparents and native Los Angelenos Debbe and Spike Booth GP ’24, ’26, ’29, was held on a beautiful spring evening at the historic California Club located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.

Of the enthusiastic turnout for the evening, Ward said, "It was so clear to me that alumni still have a strong emotional connection to Shore and their teachers. I felt privileged to hear their stories as they relived what they referred to as some of the best years of their lives."

Alumni from the 1980s, 90s, and 2000s reconnected with each other and reminisced about their time at Shore, talking fondly about former teachers, coaches, and classmates. According to Brooke Booth, Director of Annual Giving, "There was a groundswell of interest among attendees in facilitating further activities to reach even more broadly into the Shore alumni community."

The Head of School welcomed guests in her remarks at the beginning of the event, and asked alumni to think back to their time at Shore. Quoting the words of a few current ninth grade students, Ward assured the group that while the school has grown in many ways since their own time, Shore is at its core the same place they know and love.

"I consider this event a big success," said Ward. "Alumni left the evening talking about seeing us again next year and finding ways to connect with the school in the meantime. I suspect many are now considering a trip back to campus for the first time in many years."
