Grade 7 Presents 'The Jade Stone'

In drama teacher Sarah Carlin's adaptation of the classic Chinese folk tale, the Great Emporer commands the humble stone carver Chan Lo to create a dragon of wind and fire out of a perfect piece of jade. But Chan Lo can carve only what he hears in the stone. Instead of dragon sounds, he hears sounds of fish, and he works for a year and a day to craft three carp from the stone. No punishment is harsh enough for someone who has so defied the emperor, who says, "I will let my dreams decide." In these dreams the Emporer sees the sources of Chan Lo's inspiration, and so rewards him with the title of Master Carver.

Seventh grade students presented the play for a Lower School audience on November 13, 2015.
