What a battle! Fay brought a large and skilled team to our campus today, making us earn each and every chance on the ball. Play was fast paced, and the ball found its way to every corner of the field - end-to-end action all the way. Shore fought bravely, running through the ball and delivering dangerous plays all the way to the closing minutes. In the end, it was not enough to equalize, but each player should feel pride for a spirited performance today.
Shore JV Boys Soccer put on a fine display of the beautiful game yesterday versus Austin Prep. Coaches Lucey & Ahern were pleased to see players distribute the ball carefully up the field, spread the ball wide, and find dangerous areas in the final third of the field to cross the ball. We even switched angles of attack on a few occasions! What’s more, this careful possession was won in the face of fierce and physical play from a sizeable Austin Prep team, which tested our valiant keeper multiple times throughout the match. Best of all, offensive kudos were spread among several strikers. We really benefitted from the addition of our three alternate players! We’re really looking forward to our final two home games next week.
The installation of modern, reconfigurable furniture represents the start of a project to reimagine Shore's Library for the technology-rich, student-centered future.
Shore shook off the bus legs and came out charging at Fessenden. Quick steps to the ball resulted in copious offense, including well-placed through-passes and a converted penalty kick! Our defense shut down each advance, and the second half saw even more domination in the possession game. What’s more, all three of our goals were driven low into the side net: a coach’s personal fave! Go, Shore!
I apologize for this late post! The Shore JV boys soccer team put on a display of possessive soccer at Brookwood last week, dominating the course of the game in both halves of play. Our defense quickly stomped out each incursion, and our midfield swarmed effectively to apply pressure at every turn. Our offensive distribution was thoughtful and threatening. The next foci in practice will be precision and consistency with our passes and shots on goal. Regardless, the team played incredibly well and left the pitch with a broad smile on every face. Go Shore!
Shore met a well matched opponent today in the Fenn school, who played disciplined and gritty soccer. A devastatingly placed shot in the tenth minute put us down 1-0, and the first half saw most of the possession in our end. Nevertheless, Shore burst out hungry in the second half and delivered a bevy of dangerous crosses and shots at the goaltender. Alas, none found the back of the net. Still, our defense earned a shutout in the second thirty minutes, giving Shore another reason to be proud in this well fought contest.
Our JV squad showed its strength and prowess today in an impressive performance against Pike! Dominating in possession of the ball, Shore delivered countless strikes on net, many of which were rebuffed by a stalwart goalkeeper. Several players shared in the glory of marking goals, but each member of the team made a significant impact in this victory. The few chances on our own net were gobbled up by the Shore net minder, resulting in a solid shutout. We march forward with well deserved pride for our next contest.

The Shore boys recorded their first victory of the season in an white-knuckle win at home against Tower. In the first half, both the first and second units alternated time and kept the game close. The boys entered the second half more rested than Tower and used turnovers and fastbreaks to score. Tower surged ahead at least twice in the second half, and both times Shore responded to tie the score.
The boys put on a furious full-court press at the end, and caused 2 straight 10-second backcourt violations. The game entered the final two minutes tied, and Walker finally put Shore ahead with a powerful move to the hoop with just 13 seconds left. Liam scored after a turnover to seal the game, and the boys stormed the court to celebrate their hard-fought victory.
Sam led the way with a season-high 24 points. Wells chipped in 9 points, and Jerry had 3 steals, 8 rebounds, and a block to go with his fast-break lay-up. Shore shook off the bus legs and rose to compete against a worthy adversary in Fay today. Our players displayed grit in sustaining long points, lunging and diving as they were to keep the play alive. Jerry grabbed 4 rebounds, and Sam B was in double-digits with 10 rebounds. Wells led the scoring with 6 points. The boys have another tough matchup on Wednesday, facing off against Fenn at home.
Shore traveled to Fay Friday afternoon for a boys/girls doubleheader. Although the boys were outmatched by Fay, the development of their shooting was evident. Scoring a season-high 33 points, the boys showed more confidence in their shooting and were more aggressive in taking the ball to the hoop. Walker and Liam each scored smooth three-pointers, and Charlie stroked in two nice jump shots. Patrick score 6 on some acrobatic shooting, while Sam B scored 6 and pulled in 6 rebounds. Ricky grabbed 4 rebounds, blocked 2 shots, and went 3 of 4 from the line as he scored 5. Jerry also blocked a shot and made a nice inside move to score a basket. The boys practice and positive attitude is paying off. Next Thursday they’ll take to the court again with a home game against Pingree.
The Shore boys travelled to Brookwood for the opening game of the season. We knew from lasts week’s scrimmage that our opponents would be a talented team. Our plan was to pack in the defense, force outside shots, and get the rebounds. To a certain extent the plan worked. Wells grabbed nine rebounds, Will got seven, and Jerry got six. However, our inexperience showed when Brookwood turned up the heat, and our rebounding advantage was offset by turnovers. Despite the stiff competition, the boys hustled throughout the game. They also had fun, celebrating small successes and not getting down over mistakes. We have a lot of room for improvement, and we have a lot of athletes on the team who are not basketball players. We are looking forward to much growth when we start up again after break.
The Shore boys visited Tower on Tuesday for their first game of the new year. The rust from the long layoff was showing as Shore couldn’t seem to get the ball through the hoop, while Tower enjoyed those favorable home-court bounces. The effort was there for Shore, both on defense and in grabbing rebounds. Sam B led the way with a remarkable 15 rebounds, and Will was close behind with 12. Wells provided energy on the court and scored 9 points. Shore’s next game is at Fay on 1/19.
Shore was more competitive than ever in today's match against Meadowbrook, a team which has beaten us handily over many seasons. Most matches were tightly contested, some going to the third game. Regardless, our squad learned much from the elevated play, so we’re eager to carry our new-found knowledge forward.
