Young Talent On Display: Shore’s World Music Concert and Lower School Art Show

On a warm spring morning, Shore’s campus hallways transformed into a lively art gallery filled with onlookers, followed by a packed auditorium full of the sounds of music, encapsulating a wide variety of languages and cultures from throughout the world. Young artists and musicians in Grades Pre-K through 4 took center stage for the annual World Music Concert and Lower School Art Show, a wonderful event which brought together students, families, faculty, staff, and community for a joyful celebration of creativity, cultural exploration, and Shore spirit.

The morning began with a tour through the campus halls, which had been transformed into a colorful display full of student artwork. Walking through the halls was like walking through a crowded museum as our young artists excitedly shared the fruits of their hard work with their families and the greater community. From intricate watercolor paintings, to thoughtful profile drawings, to beautiful metalwork sculptures, students showcased a curated collection of pieces which they had created throughout the year, reflecting a curriculum full of depth that nurtures both students’ technical skill and imagination. Guests strolled the corridors with admiration, discussing each piece with their student hosts, who were more than happy to share about their creative process and inspiration. Each exhibit included an Eye Spy sheet to further engage the guests with the gallery.

From there, Shore’s visitors were invited to join students in the Trustey Family Theatre for a heartfelt concert featuring a vibrant display of culture hailing from all across the globe. Students showcased not only their musical abilities but also their understanding of how music connects people and tells stories across cultures. The musical performances in the theatre ranged from serene and beautiful to thrilling and loud, with voice at times taking a backseat to thunderous percussion and soulful woodwind music. A fan favorite was ‘Chakardi Bhamardi’, a song of Indian descent usually associated with Garba dance music, a form of folk dance originating in the state of Gujarat. The rancor created with the students’ beautiful Dandiya sticks commanded the attention of every ear in the theatre as students showcased their boundless musical creativity and appetite for challenge.

The morning showcased not only the talent and skill on display among Shore’s Lower School students but also the depth of their learning across a number of creative mediums and their deep understanding of the world around them. Thank you to our music teachers Alexandra Asacker and Jennifer Boyum, and our art teachers Riley Lucey, Betsey Holland, and Jill Codding for providing students with such a strong curriculum and inviting them to explore their creative side.
