Shore Thanks Donors for Record Annual Fund Giving

This year, through the generosity of the entire Shore Country Day School community – current and alumni parents, alumni, grandparents, employees, and friends – the Annual Fund raised $860,060 from 604 donors, an increase in overall participation of 8% over the previous fiscal year. The total raised is the most in Shore's history.

As a gift-supported institution, Shore depends on philanthropy to provide an experience for students that would not be possible through tuition alone. The Annual Fund is a critical source of income for the school budget that enables the school to hire first-rate faculty, offer its students the best in physical education, art, and music courses, as well as fund top-rate technology, outstanding field trips, and daily nutritious lunch offerings. These exceptional teachers and programs are what distinguish Shore from day schools nearby and around the country.

When asked why the Annual Fund is so important, Brooke Booth, Shore’s Director of Annual Giving, states, “Our school relies on support from all members of the community to participate in the Annual Fund year after year. Every gift, no matter the size, makes an impact on our campus and helps us bridge the gap each year between tuition dollars and the actual cost of a Shore education.”

As Shore celebrates this banner year, the school has also reached another milestone – one that few schools can boast. For the twentieth year in a row, 100% of the school’s faculty and staff participated by giving to the Annual Fund. This is an enviable record and a vote of confidence in the school and its programs. It is widespread participation from all constituents who will provide a base of support to sustain Shore today and in the future.

As they do every year, the Board of Trustees set the stage with their 100% participation just a few months into the school’s fiscal year. In April, the trustees increased their commitment by pledging an additional $50,000 in challenge funds to provide a 1:1 match for all new and increased gifts to the Annual Fund. This Challenge was met within weeks and spurred close to 70 gifts from donors who either increased their giving or were supporting Shore for the first time. According to Jody Johnson, Director of Advancement, “We are especially grateful to the Trustees for sponsoring this challenge with the goal of encouraging new and increased gifts to the Annual Fund this year. Their personal and collective leadership support inspires others to give as generously as possible.” This past year, Shore received 163 gifts at the leadership level of $1,000 and higher.

Income from the Annual Fund accounts for nearly ten percent of the operating budget each year. Donors provide critical support for the school year after year and are a key factor in keeping tuition increases as low as possible. “On behalf of our students and faculty, the ultimate beneficiaries of your support, we thank you, our committed donors, for your generosity and loyalty this year, and for keeping Shore strong!” said Johnson.
