Kindergarten Writing Showcase

Shore's annual Kindergarten Writing Showcase is a heartwarming annual event for our Kindergarten families! The showcase, typically held during the weeks leading up to Winter Break, gives students and families the opportunity to connect with each other at an exciting time in their child's learning journey. In Kindergarten, foundational writing skills are a key focus, and students transition to more complex sentences. Focus at this stage is less concentrated on perfect spelling and more concerned with teaching students how to tell stories using their writing that others can understand, often beginning with orally telling the stories and using pictures as an aid. By the time their families come to visit in December, these young learners are ready and excited to share their hard work, explaining the meaning behind each writing project they've worked on.

Students were incredibly excited to host their families, and were proud to show off their hard work. Along with their personal collections, compiled into books for easy reading, the class displayed their handwriting skills in a welcome message for their families on the easel. "Welcome to Kindergarten. We can write, we worked so hard, we love making books! You will see weekend reports. You will read small moment stories." read Maggie G., finishing with "We hope you have fun!" Events like these, when we encourage our students to celebrate and share their learning with the people they love, act as inspiration for the future of their academic journeys, and the Kindergarten Writing Showcase is a community favorite.
