Thank You For Your Service: Shore's Veterans Day Assembly

This year’s Veterans Day Assembly, held on Friday, November 7, provided an opportunity for the Shore community to thank those who have served our country. This year, we were joined by Major Eric Morton, a Shore parent and former member of the Marine Corps who earned the rank of officer through his exceptional service. Major Morton was an engaging and charismatic speaker, offering the audience an authentic glimpse into what life is like on base, and sharing a variety of stories from his tenure. One that stood out was the heartwarming tale of a pen pal program, in which Morton was the sole pen pal for an entire Grade 2 class!

The rest of the assembly was similarly engaging, as students honored family members with speeches and poems, and passionately sang patriotic songs in support of veterans. Grade 8 student Aeton P. told the stories of his great-great-grandfather’s battlefield experience in Verdun, detailing the operation he participated in and the importance of his bravery in the outcome. “This is an inspiring story of a young immigrant who came to the United States and fought for his country at a crucial point in history, and I am proud to be his descendant.” finished Aeton.

Grade 3 student Clarabelle C. read a poem she wrote about a family member serving in the military. “While we were here at home, they traveled land and sea, to make sure we stayed safe, to protect us, and to keep us free. Words are not enough to thank them for all that they do, but on Veterans Day, we thank them for their service, me and you.” The beautiful words brought an emotional reaction from the gathered crowd in the Trustey Family Theatre, embodying the strong sense of community which we pride ourselves on at Shore.

Every Veterans Day, we recognize and honor the brave men and women who have served our country. Thank you for your service!
