Shore Athletics Spring 2025 Season Recap

By: Nancy McNall P'22, Athletic Director

When late March arrived, Shore athletes took the field for what consistently proves to be the year's most fast-paced season. Each afternoon, the gym was filled with energy as the students picked up their sports gear and headed out to the fields.

The Baseball team showcased patience and persistence throughout the season. Highlights included a victory against Fay, a nail-biting contest at Meadowbrook, and an explosive offensive display that produced nine runs during their matchup with Fenn. The roster's combination of seasoned veterans and fresh talent created a dynamic that led to continuous improvement. During the Spring Celebration, Coach Zgrablich emphasized the inherent complexity of baseball and the dedication required to master its fundamentals. The team's progression became increasingly evident as the season progressed. With each new game, players were making more plays, getting on base more often, and showing a deeper understanding of baseball's strategic elements.

While the Boys Lacrosse team retained several key contributors from last spring, an influx of newcomers required strong leadership from returning players. Their efforts paid off with a three-game win streak. Captain Will R. commented, “Even though our schedule was tough, as a team, we worked together to fight for every win.” Captain Nick P. shared that another highlight of the season was their final game against GUS. “Not only did we come away with a win, but the team made a concerted effort to involve everyone on the field, setting up teammates who hadn’t scored yet. Thanks to that unselfish play, we finished the season with all 14 players recording at least one goal.”

Girls Lacrosse picked up their first undefeated season since 2019! Equally impressive, a referee took the unusual step of writing a letter following a game to praise the team's collaborative play, composure, and respectful treatment of opponents. At the Spring Celebration, Ella V. celebrated the teams’ signature victories: "Our wins against Brookwood and Pike were especially satisfying since both opponents brought talented, competitive rosters." Petra E. recalled a lighter moment when the team donned matching blue bob wigs for their final home game: "It boosted our energy and added a fun, playful element to the competition. The wigs worked so well that we've decided to make it an annual tradition."

The Softball team blended the wisdom of eighth-grade leadership with the enthusiasm and skill of younger players, creating a fun and spirited season. Captain Anne O. explained that one of her favorite memories was a home game vs Fay. “They were late because of traffic, so we ended up just hanging out together for almost an hour before the game started. It was such a random moment, but it gave us time to have some fun and joke around while warming up and throwing the ball. Once that game started, we played really well and ended up winning. I’m proud of this team because  I've seen everyone grow so much, on the field and as teammates. I really couldn't ask for a better last season at Shore.”

Shore’s largest team this spring was Track and Field with 27 dedicated athletes. Year after year, this team sets new records and sends top competitors to the state meet, where they go toe-to-toe with the best in Massachusetts. Eighth-grader Michael E. highlighted the team's proudest achievement when a school record fell in boys' discus: “It wasn’t just about the throw. It was the teammates who cheered all of us on, the coaches who believed in us, and the energy we brought to practice.”  Matthew C. emphasized the team's season-long commitment: “From our first meet of the season to our last, our desire to be the best we can be has been undeniable. The countless personal records, school records, and bonds formed this year have shown our drive to improve and grow, both as athletes and as teammates.”

The Spring 2025 season was a season where Shore athletes not only competed well but also grew as teammates and individuals. These are the kinds of experiences that extend far beyond the playing fields. Go Shore!
