Grade 4 Dance Residency Concludes with Performance

On May 5, fourth graders celebrated the conclusion of their weeklong dance residency with the Boston non-profit Urbanity Dance by showcasing original choreography at an all-school meeting.

Inspired by Indian and African rhythms, the students worked for four days with Urbanity's Director of Education, Alison Merrill, to devise two choreographed group dances, which they presented during an all-school meeting. "It's been so exciting for us to be here this week," Merrill said. "Shore's fourth graders have been amazing—they accomplished an incredible amount in just a few sessions."

Theatre arts instructor Sarah Carlin said, "The partnership with Urbanity Dance worked wonderfully this year, and we're hoping to have them back for more workshops with other grades." A dance residency has been a staple of the fourth grade's spring arts curriculum for many years.

Urbanity Dance combines a full, professional dance company with a mission to educate and serve diverse communities through dance. The organization's wide range of partnerships with schools, health centers, local arts institutions, enrichment camps, and juvenile detention centers allows Urbanity to share quality dance experiences throughout the greater Boston area. The School at Urbanity Dance offers quality contemporary dance training for students of all ages.
