'Daddy King' Celebrates Heritage of Martin Luther King, Jr.
In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr., Day on January 18, acclaimed performers Sumner and Linda McClain presented a special Shore staging of "Daddy King," an interactive storytelling experience that recounts the life of the Civil Rights leader.
Brought to the school by Shore's Community Connections group, the performance followed an all-community dinner in Shore's Dining Hall.

Through stories, songs, music, and dance, the McClains tell their tale from the perspective of King’s father, "Daddy King." Tracing the journey from childhood to adulthood as only a father could see it, the story paints a living portrait of King, with feelings, hopes, and dreams that infuse new meaning into the life and work of one of the most important figures of American history.
Exploring themes of freedom, social justice, peace, and global harmony, the performance also included a liturgical dance by Linda McClain and songs presented by a professional soloist. Concluding the evening was a short discussion on ways that all of us can help to bring love, joy, peace, justice, and harmony to our world today.
Sumner McClain was born in Boston and grew up in in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is known throughout the region as a Master Storyteller, musician and actor, and has served as an instructor and director of dramatic arts. He received a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan and was a recipient of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Scholarship at Boston University, where he earned a Master of Divinity degree. Mr. McClain has been a METCO (Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunities) Director and Social Worker for many years, serving the needs of young people and their families. He has performed at hundreds of schools, libraries and colleges throughout New England and abroad.

Born and raised in Roxbury, Linda Eubanks-McClain is well known as a Master Storyteller and performing artist. She has performed in Boston, New Orleans, Virginia, and Maryland, as well as internationally in Jamaica, Ghana, Tanzania and Honduras. She is a graduate of the Wellesley METCO Program (Metropolitan Council For Educational Opportunities) and an Alumni of the Elma Lewis School of Fine Arts in Boston. She obtained further training in the performing arts through the LSU Artist/Teacher Institute (NOLA), Act I/ Ethiopian Theatre Company (NOLA) and as a classroom teacher with the Wolf Trap Artist In Residence Program (Reston, VA.). She received her BA degree from Tufts University in Early Childhood Education and a Master of Education in Curriculum Development/Management from Cambridge College. McClain incorporates her expertise as a storyteller, performer/puppeteer and educator to provide comprehensive training programs for teachers, parents, and community agencies.
