Shore 7th Grade Students Bring Home Gold and Silver at Choral Festival

Three Shore Country Day School students performed at the 25th annual Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Associations Solo and Ensemble Festival, held at Newton South High School on Saturday, May 9. This was the first time Shore had students present at this event, which was open to students from middle school through Grade 12.

Those attending the festival are required to prepare a selection to be performed in front of the adjudicator, Brian O’Connell, Visiting Lecturer and Choral Director from UMass Lowell.

Two Shore students received ratings of "Excellent" (Silver Medal), Harrison Wilson who performed Caro Mio Ben by Giuseppe Giordani (1751–1798), and Alba Clarke who performed Alma Del Core by Antonio Caldara (1670–1736). When asked about his experience at this festival, Wilson stated, “Varying greatly to most auditions, the MICCA Solo and Ensemble Festival was more of a building experience; rather than auditioning and then waiting to see if you got in to the respective chorus or group. I deduced that the judge was mostly there to help me and other participants in the festival improve their skills, and the judge's sole purpose at the festival was not to check my name off a list of ‘accepted’ or ‘not accepted.’”

The rating of "Superior" (Gold Medal) was given to Claudia Pollock who performed Who'll Buy My Lavender? by Edward German (1862–1936). Reflecting on the day, Pollock said, “It was a great experience to perform and be critiqued by an experienced professional.”

Congratulations, Claudia, Alba, and Harrison, on your outstanding accomplishments.
