Feeding Frenzy @ Nashoba Brooks

We knew this was going to be tough because it was a Friday afternoon, after another long bus ride in traffic.  With only 12 minutes of warmup - off we went.  Similar to Wednesday, the varsity again was short players but thanks to Tabi Kelly stepping up once again, we had enough to field a team!

We got started right away, striking first!  Clara started in net, contributing in bravery and saves. Then, after a quick timeout, we quickly sorted out 2 areas to clean up:  on attack, we needed to pull the Nashoba defense far outside the 12 meter because they were putting on full pressure - both on the ball and off the ball.  On defense, we needed to communicate through the crease rolls.  Back on the field, the offense drew the Nashoba defenders way out, and then the players wisely would drive to net, drawing the slide, and then pass through the lane to the open player.  I honestly can’t recount how many of these textbook passes we had - but it was remarkable how many of our goals (once again) came from assists.   69% of our 16 goals were assisted.  We put up 11 assists from 7 different players and we also had 7 different goal scorers.  These well-distributed stats are a nightmare for other teams because this team can attack and succeed from our entire attack in settled offense.  That is INCREDIBLE, selfless, poised lacrosse!  Our defense, despite our team only winning 40% of the draws, was the catalyst to fend off Nashoba, steal the ball back and set us up for success.  In the second half, we also had solid goaltending from Stella Cass put up 2 saves in the second half!  Woohoo goalies!

A couple other notable facts/highlights:
*8 different girls contributed to our impressive 16 caused turnovers.
* Our “ride” by our attackers was deadly - the other team was swarmed by our attackers helping out as Nashoba Brooks was trying to get the ball out of their defensive end and into their attacking end.
*The sportsmanship of this team is enviable.  The other coach came over to us after the game and said, “you have a very impressive team”.

Go Shore!

Ps.  John Racho kindly shared photos from the matchup on Friday!  Here they are!
