Flag Raising Starts the 2023-2024 School Year Strong

Shore officially marked the start of the 2023-2024 school year at the annual Flag Raising on Friday, September 1, 2023.

Members of the sixth grade class marched through the crowd of students, employees, alumni, and families, carrying each House banner and gathering around the flagpole.

Interim Head of School Amy Vorenberg introduced the theme for the school year, a tradition that provides the Shore community a sentiment to revisit and think about as the year progresses. This year's theme is ‘Strength in Community,’ with Vorenberg saying “we are a strong learning community that when boiled down to it prioritizes two things. We take care of each other as we get smarter. Every day, all day.”

“There’s a lot you're going to hear this year about the Community Code in your classrooms, in family meetings,” said Vorenberg. “Because the Community Code guides everything we do here at Shore.”
After Vorenberg recited the Community Code, three student flag raisers came forward with the American flag and Shore flag, and a group of fifth grade singers stood in front of the garden to sing ‘America the Beautiful.’

As the flags reached the top of the pole, the community cheered and students were dismissed to their classrooms to spend their days getting smarter as they take care of each other, while families stayed to catch up with one another and learn more about volunteering with the Shore Families Association.
