Massive Fall Rummage Sale a North Shore Tradition

On Saturday, October 29, the public is invited to join the Shore community and families from across the region at the massive rummage sale that’s become a North Shore tradition every fall. The sale is open to the public Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Widely regarded as one of the best events of its kind north of Boston, Shore’s Rummage Sale promises shoppers a treasure trove of high-quality home décor, garden accessories, books, outerwear, sporting goods, and much more.

For generations, Shore families have donated gently used items to be sold each year for next to nothing. Today, Shore’s Rummage Sale is renowned in the area for rewarding bargain hunters with designer goods at yard sale prices.

"It's such a great tradition for us," says Shore parent and co-organizer Ellen Robbins. "While it serves as a wonderful fundraiser for our programs, just as importantly Rummage is also a way for Shore families to give back to the local community by donating high-quality essentials to be sold at yard-sale prices. This year we're excited to be accepting donations of children's clothing and toys, all of which will be given away to Rummage shoppers and local families in need."

Adds parent and co-organizer Sandy DeVita, "What I love about Rummage is seeing an incredible quantity of well cared-for items find a second or even third home, instead of going to the landfill. It fits right in with Shore's increasing emphasis on themes of sustainability and community service, which have become central to the curriculum for all grades."

Says Robbins, "Every member of the school community plays their part. Children donate books, clothing, and toys they've outgrown; parents scour attics and basements for sale items, and also provide hundreds of hours of volunteer support; and teachers, students, and administrators assist with setup, organization, checkout, and cleanup. It's really what the Shore community is all about."

Items to be found at the sale include: men’s and women’s clothing and shoes; teen and children's clothing; outerwear; accessories such as jewelry, belts, handbags, scarves, and luggage; sporting goods including skis, snowboards, bikes, helmets, racquets, clubs, cleats, and skates; gear for soccer, lacrosse, hockey, football, field hockey, baseball, and basketball; sports memorabilia; home décor such as mirrors, artwork, lights, linens, and kitchen and bath furnishings; bric-a-brac and decorative items; garden and yard games, accessories, and equipment; small furniture; books, board games, craft/hobby kits and music items; and baked goods and snacks.
