Shore Ambassadors Inspire Hundreds at Festival of Arts

On Saturday, July 2nd, Shore Country Day School volunteers dove deep into a local community event, supplying more than 25% of the staffing for Marblehead’s Children’s Festival of Arts. The Festival is an annual event over the 4th of July weekend celebrating fine arts and crafts, performances, and family entertainment.

A team of Shore volunteers, many a part of the school's Parent Ambassadors group, paid homage to Marblehead's sacred "Golden Cod" with a unique craft activity for Festival-goers. In keeping with this year’s Festival theme of “Trash To Treasure,” the school collected over 10,000 plastic bottle caps for nearly three months, and the results were turned into a fun and artistic experience for families.

With the help of 15 parents, teachers, and students, over 300 kids enjoyed visiting the Shore craft table located at Lee Mansion. Using the colorful plastic bottle caps, buttons of many shapes and sizes, and fuzzy pom-poms, kids decorated their own Golden Cod, while their parents learned about Shore from the volunteers.

One Shore organizer, Kate Hoffman, said “We were so excited to have Shore be a part of this fun festival this year. As a longtime resident of Marblehead, our family has attended the Festival of Arts for years. This year, the whole family was involved. All four of our kids were involved with the Golden Cod activity!”
