Bobbi Whiting, Shore's Chief Financial Officer, is the recipient of the 2016
NBOA (National Business Officers Association) Ken White Distinguished Business Officer Award. She accepted the award February 23 at the NBOA Annual Meeting in Los Angeles.
With a respected 30-year career as a business officer at Shore, Whiting is also one of NBOA’s 23 founding members and served on the NBOA Board of Directors for 12 years over two terms. In recognizing Whiting, the NBOA noted that she has been a leader and mentor to colleagues on a regional and national level. One of her nominators said, "When Bobbi speaks, people listen."
Prior to joining Shore, Whiting worked in banking and began her decades-long volunteer service to nonprofit boards and her alma mater. Her proudest professional achievement extends to NBOA's beginning in 1998, when Shore was one of the 23 originating member schools. She served on the original NBOA board for six years and was reappointed in 2007 for another six years. During her board tenure, she was active on the Finance Committee and co-chaired the search committee that identified Jeff Shields as NBOA's president and CEO.
Whiting's experience with other nonprofit boards includes many years with the Massachusetts Association of Non-profit Schools and Colleges, the Association of Independent Schools of New England, the Association of Business Officers of Independent Schools, and the National Association of Independent Schools (including three years on the faculty of the Summer Institute). Locally, she has been active with the Hub New England Educational Solutions Advisory Board and the North Shore Business Officers Consortium.
Whiting's planned retirement as Shore's CFO in June, 2016, was announced last September as she began her 32nd year with Shore. Whiting will work with the school throughout the summer to ensure a smooth transition.
In announcing Whiting's planned retirement, Head of School Larry Griffin said,
"Bobbi Whiting's service spans not just her professional career, but time first as a Shore parent, Parent Association leader, and member of the Board of Trustees. In her tenure as Business Manager, which evolved over her career to earn the title Chief Financial Officer, Bobbi has raised the bar for Shore and the role of an operations manager. Bobbi is recognized nationally for her leadership in independent school management, and she has been a key player in numerous professional organizations."
Outside of her career, Whiting revels in her family, home and Bernese Mountain dog, Buck. Her husband, son, daughter, and their spouses and children will become her focus when she retires in the fall of 2016, along with cooking, supporting conservation organizations and enjoying walks in the woods.
