Alumni Athletes Stand Out

Shore alumni are well known for the rigorous academic preparation they bring with them to high school. Many graduates also stand out athletically as they continue with the sports that they competed in while at Shore, and for some, that prowess on the fields translates to early commitments to colleges and universities that are eager to have these talented young players join their teams.

This year, a number of Shore alumni who are juniors or seniors in high school have committed to playing collegiate sports:
  • Georgia Adams ’18, a senior at Andover, will play field hockey at Wesleyan University.
  • Lucy Adams ’18, a senior at Brooks School, will play field hockey at Brown University.
  • Charlie Faldi ’19, a senior at Pingree School, will play lacrosse at Colorado College.
  • Jack Fates ’18, a senior at Andover, will play lacrosse at Union College.
  • Holly Levasseur ’19, a senior at Middlesex School, will play field hockey at Connecticut College.
  • Grace Mullaney ’20, a junior at Pingree, will play field hockey at Boston University.
  • Logan Styles ’20, a junior at Tabor Academy, will play lacrosse at Boston University.
  • Eden Welch ’20, a junior at Exeter, will play lacrosse at the University of Pennsylvania.

According to Shore Athletic Director Nancy McNall, “These student-athletes stood out at Shore, and it’s not surprising that they continue to do so. Being a student and athlete at Shore provided them with plenty of practice in managing their time and responsibilities. They balanced a rigorous academic workload along with a pre-prep athletic schedule. That powerful combination impresses top-notch schools.”

Grace Mullaney says, “Shore taught me how to balance being a student-athlete with the challenges of time management, while simultaneously staying true to myself. This lesson of balance will help me succeed in being committed to myself as an athlete, student, and person. From a young age, I learned how to find confidence within myself and apply it towards determination. Without that belief in myself, I would not have been able to persevere through challenges on the athletic field.”

Georgia Adams explains, “Shore helped me succeed as an athlete because it was the first time in my life I was able to really feel and understand what being a part of a team was. We won and lost together, and all took pride in each other and ourselves. For the first time, I felt like I was a part of something much bigger than myself. Shore taught me what to look for in a team, how to be a part of of one, and that there is no better feeling than playing the sport you love alongside people that push you to be better every single day.”

“Like all Shore athletes,” says Nancy McNall, “these students experienced Shore coaches that had expectations for leadership and role modeling both on and off the field. They had a chance to learn and grow with committed and supportive teacher-coaches. These schools will be lucky to have these Shore alums on their campus!”
