Upper School Presents ‘Dawn and Wally’

The Upper School presented its fall play, Dawn and Wally, November 14 and 15 in the Trustey Family Theatre. In Gordon LePage’s sci-fi comedy, two inexperienced but earnest scouts from a fictional planet accidentally land on Earth after their original mission veers off course. They find themselves transformed into fifth graders who are forced to go to school, and they must use their malfunctioning translation device to try to understand how to function on our planet. Meanwhile, the security agency on their home planet is working on a plan to get them back home.

“We had a lot of fun putting this production together,” said director and theater arts teacher Sarah Carlin, “but at the same time we had to cope with some serious challenges. Not least of these was the fact that while we only had six actors in the cast, we had 20 roles to somehow fill. This group of young actors eagerly took on this challenge, which wouldn’t have been easy even for a more experienced cast.” The actors also took charge of back stage management, costume and set changes, and lighting entirely on their own. Said Carlin, “I am exceedingly proud of this group.”
