Inaugural Shore Giving Day Exceeds Goal
Shore's first-ever Giving Day on May 8, 2019, far exceeded its goal, concluding with 364 individual donors contributing over $90,000 to support the school's mission. Brooke Booth, Shore's Director of Annual Giving, had hoped for 150 donors; the final total more than doubled that. "We honestly didn’t know what to expect for Shore’s first Giving Day," said Booth. "Our community had already been so generous this year, and we could only hope that Giving Day would be well received. It was! With the help of many volunteers, on and off campus, the Advancement Office was able to successfully execute this initiative. Alumni, parents, grandparents, parents of alumni, employees, and friends all came together to support Shore."
This first Giving Day was timed to coincide with National Teacher Appreciation Week; supporting the commitment of Shore's faculty and staff was the theme of the day. "It was so special to be able to tie in Shore’s Giving Day with appreciation for our employees. Shore alumni always reflect back on the people of Shore Country Day School—the faculty, coaches, and staff members who build the foundation for learning here on campus. By celebrating Shore employees and featuring so many long-tenured professionals in the Giving Day marketing materials, we were able to inspire our community."
Current parents comprised 34% of donors, alumni accounted for 35% of participants, and more than 50 class years were represented among the hundreds of individual donors. Supporters from across the Northeast as well as California, Florida, New York, and other states were able to unlock two matching challenges that totaled $25,000, driving up the final fundraising total to $90,042, all to support The Shore Fund. Dozens of Shore employees made contributions, and members of the Board of Trustees, Advancement Committee, the 2018-2019 Shore Fund volunteers, and more than 16 alumni volunteers all pitched in to help.
Giving Day saw Shore's first use of an online fundraising platform, GiveCampus, which allows both donors and fundraisers to see results as they happen. "The real-time tracking of both dollars and donors of the GiveCampus platform, along with the instantaneous analysis that it provides, is a really compelling tool for one-day initiatives like this. The success we saw reinforces why even small gifts can make a huge difference to organizations like Shore. When the entire community comes together to give back, it makes a huge impact."
While much of the action was online, students and employees on campus got to join in to celebrate the results. With Chef Scott Flanagan serving up his famous Congo Bars at lunch, and the Shore beaver leading an impromptu dance party in the Dining Hall, the whole community was able to enjoy the excitement of Shore Giving Day.
