Lloyd '19 Skates in the New Year at First Night Boston
Miranda Lloyd '19 helped ring in the new year by performing in the Skating Spectacular on Frog Pond, part of First Night Boston 2019. A member of the 107-year-old Skating Club of Boston, one of the most prestigious skating organizations in the world, Lloyd and her ice dance partner TJ Carey were featured on New Year's Eve alongside three-time U.S. national champion skater Ashley Wagner, 2016 World silver medalist and 2014 Olympic bronze medalist.
To prepare for the Skating Spectacular, Lloyd and Carey practiced together several hours a day for three months, perfecting their routine for the big night. "I was definitely nervous," said Lloyd, "but also excited. It's a huge honor to skate at First Night Boston."
When she's not on the ice training or performing, Lloyd attends Tec Connections Academy, a Massachusetts "virtual" high school that allows her to focus on her skating while pursuing a rigorous high school curriculum from home. According to Jo-Anna Lloyd, "She is doing amazingly well attending online high school. Her academic preparedness is outstanding and her ability to organize time is excellent; I attribute that to Shore and the 10 years she spent there."
