Lynch '17 Earns Eagle Scout Rank

On May 19, Ryan Lynch '17, a member of Boy Scout Troop 35 of Hamilton, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, capping off eight years of community service, skills development, and scouting adventures. The final step in the arduous process toward the distinction was completing his Eagle project: making functional and aesthetic improvements to the meeting space known as “the Barn” on the grounds of the historic First Congregational Church of Hamilton. He was also awarded the Bronze Palm in recognition of earning at least five more merit badges in excess of the 21 required for the Eagle rank.

Lynch, a sophomore at Pingree School in South Hamilton, began the journey to becoming an Eagle by joining the Cub Scouts when he was eight years old. At his Court of Honor held at the Congregational Church, Troop 35 Scoutmaster Joe Ryan said, “Two out of 100 Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle. Only with the greatest persistence and courage can a young man complete the Scouting journey and stand upon the highest summit. Ryan is the first of the pack of Cub Scouts that I started to work with, and we could not be more proud of his service in Scouting and to the community.”

Ryan also presented commendations from Senator Elizabeth Warren and from the United States Military Academy at West Point. Representative Brad Hill, 4th Essex, presented resolutions of the State Senate and House of Representatives and offered personal congratulations. John Pramberg of the Massachusetts Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, noting Lynch’s membership in SAR, presented him with a greeting and commendation from its national president to mark the occasion.
