Families Celebrate Fall at Inaugural Harvest Festival

Unpredictable weekend weather didn't scare away Shore families who came to campus to enjoy the inaugural Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 14, 2017.

Bunnies, piglets, chicks, and ducklings greeted grinning students, who enjoyed a snuggle before moving onto the fields for activities, contests, and treats. While their parents happily mingled with each other and Head of School Clair Ward, children tested their skills eating donuts from a string, guessing the number of gummy bears in a jar, racing in potato sacks, and tossing bean bags to knock down tin cans. A roving magician and face painters provided entertainment as guests made their way to the Gaga Pit, bouncy house, pumpkin decorating area, and Italian ice and snack stations.

"I liked everything," said Lola Wolfgang, Class of 2023, "but my favorite was playing volleyball with my friends and teachers [Stacy Tell and James Hubbard]." All in all this full afternoon of family fun, enhancing friendships, and making new ones was a superb partnership between parents, teachers, administrators, and staff, reflecting months of planning and preparation by parents, who worked closely with the Office of Advancement to orchestrate and stage the fall celebration. According to Director of Advancement Jody Johnson, "We are grateful to our Chair of the Harvest Festival, new Trustee Sarah Wolfgang, her talented committee of parents, and over 50 parent and employee volunteers for bringing this new event to fruition!"
