Singapore Math Summer Seminar with Dr. Kevin Mahoney - Beverly, MA

From June 20-21, Shore will host a workshop for experienced math teachers led by math educator and respected Singaporean Math consultant Dr. Kevin Mahoney

An elementary math teacher for over 25 years, Mahoney implemented Singapore’s elementary math curriculum at Tenacre School in Wellesley in 2009. In 2012, he became the first American to earn a doctorate investigating the effects of Singaporean teaching strategies on American students. He consults with schools nationally as well as in Canada, Europe, and India, training faculty and helping schools effectively implement mathematics curriculum and instruction. He is currently the Math Curriculum Coordinator at the Tenacre School.

"Kevin is becoming increasingly and widely known in the world of Singapore Math," says Head of Lower School Sara Knox. "Not only is he incredibly knowledgeable, but he is also collaborative and down to earth. I jumped at the opportunity to host him at our school because I think his workshop will be practically beneficial to us all."

Mahoney's "Singaporean Math Next Steps Seminar" will provide experienced teachers with advanced techniques and ideas to improve their classroom practice. The seminar will help teachers learn effective models for differentiation in math class, explore new games designed specifically for Singaporean pedagogy, stretch bar modeling to advanced models and beyond, develop number talks and foster a deeper number sense in students, and set next-step goals.

The workshop is designed for public and independent school teachers of grades 1-6, math specialists, administrators, current users of either the Math in Focus or Primary Mathematics textbook series.
